Summer Fete 2011

Saturday 11th June 2011 Victoria Recreation Ground, Tilehurst reading 12 noon- 4pm

It was Literally third time lucky weather-wise for our Annual Summer Fete when the sun shone throughout the afternoon of June 11th, helping to make this years' event our most successful in latter years.

League Development Manager Martin Butler said " We had been really lucky to have great weather for the last two years and I was worried because the forecast this year had been so bad.

"It was raining at 5am on the Saturday morning and it started again at 5pm but, luckily, the rain held off all day for the fete. We are truly blessed."

A record number of stallholders were present this year, ranging from local businesses and charities to arts and crafts and home-,made cakes, books and plants.

In the arena, Shooting Stars Line dancers, SOTA adult rock choir, Denton dancers and Berkshire Tai chi entertinaed the crowds  and this year's fete saw its first Charity auction, offering prizes including tickets to Ascot, Legoland, Man United museum tour and bottles of champagne amongst the many gifts on offer.

Profits and attendances were both up again this year. Martin Butler explained."Last year we raised £3200 the year before was £3100, this year we have exceeded both those figures and raised just over £4400.

"Without doubt the fete is going from strength to strength each year and we expect to have a decision soon on what the money raised from the day will be spent on."

Summer Fete 2010

Saturday 5th June 2010  Victoria Recreation Ground, Tilehurst, 12 noon - 4.00pm

Almost 3000 people enjoyed this years Summer Fete. They helped to push profits slightly higher than in 2009, providing the League with lust over £3200 to spend on projects around the hospital to help patients, visitors and staff.

A leap of more than 25% in stall bookings from last year meant 90 local charities and businesses were also there for the fete's second appearance at its new venue at Tilehurst's Victoria Recreation Ground.

Performances in the arena provided by SOTA adult rock choir and childrens' choir, Shooting Stars line dancers, Ceroc (Thames Valley) and the Tilehurst Square Dance group completed a afternoon full of entertainment for all the family.

LOF Development Manager Martin Butler said " Our 2009 debut at Tilehurst was a great success and our profits are slightly up on last year so we are really pleased.

"We are fortunate that in the last two years we have been blessed with extremely good weather and we hope it will be third time lucky in 2011."

Plans are already taking shape for next year's fete, which will be held on Saturday June 11th.
